Tax Cheat? Everyone must play by the rules... but does Trump? / by steven salerno

Recently the NY Times released an article with details of President Trump’s past tax returns citing his significant lack of Federal taxes paid and his current mountain of debt with hundreds of millions of dollars in loans that will all come due over the next handful of years… So the idea for a parody illustration popped into my head. I imagined the Go To Jail card from the game of MONOPOLY but with Trump’s face on it (instead of the mustachioed Mr. Monopoly).

I drew an exact replica of the yellow Community Chest card but inserted the likeness of our “billionaire” President Trump onto the character who is being dragged to jail by the billy-club wielding policeman. Plus of course I also modified the wording on the card. Everyone must play by the rules of the game or suffer the consequences, right? But does Trump?

Back in 2018 another one of the picture books I illustrated was released, PASS GO And Collect $200 The Real Story of How MONOPOLY Was Invented (non-fiction) written by Tanya Lee Stone & illustrated by Steven Salerno. Published by Henry Holt & Co/Christy Ottaviano Books. Having illustrated that picture book I own a vintage 1946 edition of MONOPOLY which I used as reference -so had the actual yellow Community Chest cards to refer to when making this Trump parody illustration.
