Heat Wave -drawing by Steven Salerno by steven salerno

“Heat Wave” drawing by Steven Salerno (placed into a mock-cover design of The New Yorker magazine)

This is one of my recent drawings (digital) -created in response to news of ever increasing temperatures being recorded around the globe, due to climate change -represented by the earth as a scoop of ice cream atop a cone, and rapidly melting under the hot sun.

Many years ago some of my drawings appeared on the inside pages of a few The New Yorker magazine issues… but never on the cover. When I created this drawing of the melting “earth” ice cream I had the thought that it would make for a provocative New Yorker magazine cover, so just for the fun of it placed within the mock-design of the magazine’s iconic cover design. (To be clear, my drawing posted here was not created for The New Yorker magazine nor published by the magazine.)

Putin Earns Place in Infamy by steven salerno

Ukraine’s President Zelensky arm wrestling with Russia’s Putin, with Putin appearing surprised at Ukraine’s strength.... -political editorial drawing by Steven Salerno

^ ABOVE First in a series of political drawings I created for the editorial cartoon service, INXart.com -Ukraine’s President Zelensky arm wrestling with Russia’s Putin -with Ukraine possessing much more strength and resistance than Putin had expected.

Putin’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, defining him as a war criminal and echoing Hitler’s invasion of Poland in 1939. -political editorial drawing by Steven Salerno

^ ABOVE Putin is yet another strong-arm authoritarian using military force to manifest his ambitions, incapable of operating within moral and social bounds of human rights. His actions invading Ukraine will forever paint the character of his life in blood red. My drawing posted above relates Putin’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine with Hitler’s 1939 invasion of Poland. It is a crude, blunt visual concept depicting both leaders stomping forward, their boots and clothing soaked in blood red. Each man is using their country flag as reason to validate the destruction and sorrow they have unleashed… This drawing was created digitally combined with gouache painted texturing and created for the INXart editorial service/March 2022.

Putin’s 2022 Invasion of Ukraine. HOPE for the people of Ukraine. -political editorial drawing by Steven Salerno

^ ABOVE My drawing represents the magnificent spirit of the people of Ukraine in the form of an angel and their hope for the world to assist them in repelling Putin’s criminal, destructive rampage. The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine… and their symbol of HOPE. This drawing was created digitally combined with gouache painted texturing and created for the INXart editorial service/March 2022.

I created these political satire illustrations before the November 3rd Election day…. and it seems to have come true. Trump is refusing to acknowledge Joe Biden as the new President Elect. And perhaps he may not even vacate the White House by January 20th, 2021?
